Molecular profile
ARA-290 (INN: cibinetide) is a synthetic linear 11-amino-acid peptide, pGlu-Glu-Gln-Leu-Glu-Arg-Ala-Leu-Asn-Ser-Ser, designed from the aqueous face of helix B of erythropoietin (EPO). The N-terminal residue is cyclised to pyroglutamate, and the peptide is also described in the literature as pyroglutamate helix B surface peptide (pHBSP).
ARA-290 was engineered to lack the erythropoietic activity of EPO while engaging the so-called innate repair receptor, a proposed heteromeric complex of the EPO receptor and the β-common receptor (CD131). Published studies have examined its tissue-protective and anti-inflammatory signalling in rodent models of ischaemic and inflammatory tissue injury, and its effects on mechanical allodynia in rat nerve-injury models and in β-common receptor knockout mice.
Supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial.
