Molecular profile
BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide, Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val, corresponding to a partial sequence of body protection compound (BPC), a protein first described in gastric juice. In the literature it also appears as PL 14736 and as the "stable gastric pentadecapeptide".
BPC-157 has been investigated extensively in rodent models of gastrointestinal mucosal integrity, tendon and ligament biology, and vascular function. Cell-based work has reported increased growth hormone receptor expression in rat tendon fibroblasts, with downstream JAK-STAT signalling, and studies in isolated rat aorta have linked its effects on vasomotor tone to nitric oxide and activation of the Src-caveolin-1-eNOS pathway. Angiogenesis-related signalling, including VEGFR2 activation, is a further focus of in-vitro and in-vivo research with this peptide.
