Bacteriostatic Water 10 mL

Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol, added as a bacteriostatic preservative. The preservative limits microbial growth after the stopper has been punctured, so the 10 mL vial can be used for repeated withdrawals under aseptic conditions rather than being discarded after a single use.

In the laboratory it serves as a general-purpose aqueous diluent for preparing solutions of lyophilized peptides and other reagents where a preserved, multi-draw vehicle is convenient. Benzyl alcohol can be incompatible with some compounds, cell-based assays and analytical methods, so researchers should confirm compatibility with their materials and experimental design; plain sterile water or a buffer without preservative may be more suitable where any additive could interfere. Use aseptic technique, swab the stopper before each puncture, and keep the vial capped and stored at controlled room temperature between uses.
