Molecular profile
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist with the structure Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH. It shares the α-MSH-derived core and the Asp–Lys side-chain lactam bridge of melanotan II, but ends in a C-terminal carboxylic acid instead of an amide.
Bremelanotide acts as an agonist at several melanocortin receptor subtypes, and research interest centres on central MC4R signalling. In female rats it was reported to selectively increase appetitive, solicitational components of sexual behaviour. Reviews of the animal literature have summarised its central nervous system actions in rodent models, and it is used as a tool compound in melanocortin receptor pharmacology and in neurobehavioural research on hypothalamic melanocortin circuits.
Supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial.
For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
