Molecular profile
GHRP-2 (pralmorelin; also designated KP-102) is a synthetic growth hormone-releasing hexapeptide with the sequence D-Ala-D-2Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. It contains three D-configured residues, including the non-proteinogenic amino acid D-β-(2-naphthyl)alanine, and a C-terminal amide that confer resistance to proteolysis.
GHRP-2 acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a (GHS-R1a), the G protein-coupled receptor later identified as the endogenous ghrelin receptor. It is used in studies of somatotroph signalling and pituitary hormone secretion. In-vitro work in rat and ovine primary pituitary cells has compared its GH-releasing activity with that of GHRP-6 and characterised its effects on intracellular cAMP levels, and it is widely employed as a reference agonist in ghrelin-receptor pharmacology and receptor-binding studies.
